  1. Hi!!

Im new at this site, Im buying a Fusion 2010 but I have not decided yet which color!!! which color do you think it looks the best?? Tuxedo Black or Sterling Gray?? I really need some advice!

I'd go with grey. Black is too common; almost every Fusion I see is black - and not kept clean!

  2. I am thinking about this and would love some feed back, before i make the investment on the shark fin.

Absolutely go with fusionff's suggestion - the cd3fusion stubby antenna. The sharkfin is huge (7"L x 3.5"W x 2.5"H) . To me it looks like the top of a taxicab.

  3. Thanks fellas. I definitely understand how internet forums tend to amplify the apparent seriousness of product issues. I'm just an incredibly detail oriented person (which is how I ended up picking a Fusion in the first place).

Anyways assuming all goes well in financing/transfer and all that, it'll be a sterling gray SEL 3.0...I'm a fairly young guy so I had to go with a slightly mean color scheme. happy feet.gif Liked the Sport too but the wife preferred the SEL interior and I think she'll feel more comfortable driving it than she would with the 3.5. I did test drive the Sport...very European-like suspension setup. I'll bet you could absolutely abuse that thing in the twisties. :shift:

Both trims caused me to have the proverbial "THIS is a Ford?!" reaction, at least privately. I'm excited.

I'm detail oriented too - shopped, test drove, and compared for six months before I ordered the Fusion. As I said in previous post, you won't be disappointed. Good luck.

P.S.: You can "rag" the SEL too, but it's so beautiful that you might not want to.

  4. [EDIT: I'M MOVING THIS TO A MORE APPROPRIATE CATEGORY...MODS FEEL FREE TO REMOVE]

I am scheduled to pick up a 2010 Fusion SEL V-6 tomorrow. However, since making the deal at the end of last week, I discovered a lot of internet posts surrounding transmission issues on the models carrying the I-4s or 3.0 V-6s. This somehow escaped my obsessive research.

How big a problem is this? I hear people say they took their car in either with issues or at the behest of a TSB, only to have the "downshift" issue persist. How much of it is people being paranoid and freaking out too quickly over an adaptive transmission that is breaking in? I agree, an automatic should be very hesitant to downshift until you actually press the gas. My concern is a powertrain that will wear faster and EPA estimates that would technically be invalid (if they changed the shift behavior).

Like the subject line says, talk me down here. I love these cars. I hate how bloated and cheesy Accords have become (don't get me started on what the Camry turned into). If you showed me these two cars several years ago, and took the badges off, I'd have guessed that the Fusion was the 2010 Accord (and the Accord was some sort of GM monstrosity).

But the idea of something so major being screwed up in a new car as a transmission scares the bejesus out of me. Help! Tell me I'm overreacting. :sos:

I have the 2010 SEL V6 AWD. I took it in for the TSB transmission fix and was pleasantly surprised. It took about 1/2 hour, and I seem to be getting about 2MPG more than I did before the fix. If you are getting a brand new '10, it was probably built after the date of the transmissions that require the tweek. I wouldn't let this keep me away from a great car. This from a hardcore Honda driver of 35 years. You won't regret your choice.

  5. Are there any recommendations for a windshield shade for the 2010 Fusion? I have one that was purchased from Walmart, and I'm not crazy about about how it fits due to the rear view mirror.

I just got the Intra-tech shade. I t fits perfectly because it's custom made for your car. Only $24.95 (no tax or shipping costs) from customautoaccessories.com. It took only five days from my initial order to delivery at my door. Used it this morning at rhe golf course and I'm very pleased.

  6. Just curious what everyone was driving before they got their Fusion. Is there anything you miss from your previous car that your Fusion does not have? Anything you don't miss? Anything you couldn't live w/out that your Fusion has that no other car had?

    I went from a 2003 Audi A6 2.7Ltwin Turbo.

What I miss: Head room, Folding exterior mirrors, power, one touch up/down windows all around

    What I don't miss: 91 Octane, -20MPG w/cruise set at 65, $100 oil changes,

What I won't be able to live w/out in the future: Back up sensor, Sync (or something similar)

I went w/a 2.5l 4 cylindar car so I could get better gas milage. In a car w/a smaller gas tank, I am getting more miles per tank at $.20 cheaper a gallon over my Audi.

I don't miss the leather seating, I've always thought leather was overrated. One place it was helpful was the back seat w/the kids and their spilling crap, but the kids are not in my car all that often.

The key for me was not to give up anything. I still drive my '94 Honda Accord wagon (240.000 miles so far). But I bought a 2010 SEL V6 AWD w/Moon and Tune (my first automatic since a '72 Pinto, my first 6-cylinder since a '64 Rambler American)

What I still like about my Honda::

    -5-speed manual

    -lockable glove box

    -better quality plastics

    -hauling capacity

    -28 mpg city

-Honda handling and zippiness (I hesitate to call it "zoom-zoom")

    -no major repairs whatsoever

What I like about my Fusion by comparison:

-automatic transmission in bumper-to-bumper New York traffic

-technology (although Sync needs some fixes- not as smooth as the current offerings from other auto manufacturers)

    -AWD

    -more airbags

  7. Okay, this may go under the category of 'dumb questions'... What is the little plastic clip on both visors supposed used for? It is located just behind where the visor latches to the headliner. I have not seen this on any of my previous cars before. It's too small to hold an envelope or a piece of paper, and the sunglass "bin" is just inches away. Nothing is mentioned about it in the owner's guide. Beside myself, a few people that have been in my car have also asked about it and all I can do is shrug my shoulders.

SOME garage door openers can clip onto the clip. Unfortunately, mine cannot. :-(

  8. First post.

Don't jump all over me - I've owned the car for a day and I like it very much, but I can't stand the blue gauges on the regular non-hybrid fusion. It's OK during the day, but way over the top at night.

A quick search of Google reveals no "gauge faces" for the 2010 yet. Something tells me it may not be a practical solution on these cars, given the way the hashmarks seem to be "molded-in" etc. And of course, if "gauge faces" were available on the aftermarket, they'd likely be even more outrageous.

Anyhow, anyone come up with a solution yet? Or am I the only one with a problem? I'm starting to think about researching an appropriate paint to use to simply cover the entirety of the blue regions.

Should have test driven one, I guess, though I probably would have bought the car anyway (and I do like it) but was basing my purchase decision in part on my experience with my mother's '06 with blessedly plain, black gauges.

    Thanks!

Yes, the dimmer is all you have to play with. I personally love the blue. And I would think if you took a ride in any Volkswagon with the hideous angry red alternative, you'd come around to the blue too. In Feng Shui, blue is peaceful, soothing, and linked with contemplation, patience, and stability - all really good anti-road rage things for the driver. Cut the blue some slack. I'm just sayin'.

  9. I have a 2010 SEL. I'd like to remove the blue oval on the trunk lid and maybe replace it with something custom. It seems to be glued in place like the other badges. My question is what's left underneath after it's removed? Is it a flat space? A hole? An indentation?

  10. I have an 09 and I am wanting to take the Fusion and SEL emblems off the back of the car and was wondering if anyone has done that yet and if there are guide pins or if they are just glued on? Thanks for any help.

I used a little Goof Off and some fishing line. Just wash and wax afterwards.

  11. It's the plastics and other materials out-gassing. That's what gives you that "new car" smell, too. Leave the windows open as much as possible and it should go away within a week or two.

Yes, definitely don't inhale the stuff if you can avoid it. If you have to run the AC, run it a while w/windows open before you get into the car. That stuff is toxic.

  12. The corn that goes into ethanol production is feed corn, not meant for human consumption. If anything, you would be fighting a pig for his dinner rather than taking food off of the plates of someone in a third world country.

If there were no market for ethanol, and the government subsidies form the 1930's were discontinued, feed corn (and hence, meat) would be cheaper. Then the farmers might be encouraged to go back to producing corn for human consumption. It's all about profit in the end, but that profit can be realized in so many more benficial ways for the planet.

Bottom line though: My Fusion still purrs on regular 87 octane gas.

  13. Don't forget how ethanol drives the price of corn up so much, the poor countries of the world can't afford to buy it for their starving people.... Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now, but I heard it's true.

I agree with scottss80 and xmech2k. E85 does nothing for the environment. Corn is meant to be eaten, not burned. When you figure the 25% mpg reduction, you'd have to pay 25% per gallon less at the pump just to break even. My Fusion purrs on 87 octane, and I'm sticking with it. If you want to help the environment, ride a bicycle locally and shop locally.

  14. When I was the dealer today for the recall I noticed that the satellite antenna on the roof for the Fusion and the MKZ are not the same. They both use the Sony Sync radio with Sirius but the Fusion antenna is black no matter the car color and is about 10 inches long on an angle. The antenna on the MKZ does not have rod sticking out of it and the base is the color of the car. I won't take my Fusion through an automated car wash for fear of antenna damage but if I had a MKZ this would not be a problem Anyone have any idea or reason why there are two different types of antennas? Can I replace the porcupine on my roof for one from a MKZ?

If you don't want to spend $81 dollars on the shark fin, check out the shortie at cd3fusion.com. $23, looks sweet, no alterations.

  15. It was sad to read (Cars.com) that the 2010 Fusion took last place out of eight Family Sedans. I hope this does not hurt our resale value in the future. I own a 2010 SEL and love my car.

Ditto. 2010 Motor Trend Car of the Year! And what does cars.com know? They highly recommended the Fusion a year ago.

  16. I bought an Ipod touch a few weeks ago to use with my Fusion when i finally get it, but now Ive been reading that there are problems with the Iphone and Ipod touch working with Sync. Specifically that Sync wont recognize them as a USB device and that they only work when plugged in the AUX jack. Has any one had this problem?

I"ve had an Ipod Touch for a couple of months now. It works fine with sync. Once I got an error message about indexing, but that issue was easily rectified with the SyncMyiTunes program which is available for download at syncmyride.com. I have not encountered an indexing issue or any other problem since. So I would say definitely check out the Sync website.

  17. Hey guys and gals, I've solved my problem with my mini whip roof antenna...........soon I will be installing a Shark Fin roof antenna. "CHECK THIS OUT"

Check out my topic" ROOF ANTENNA (SHARK FIN MAYBE????)"Purchase and install Shark Fin Roof Antenna for Fusion mod and the link to the seller.

the pictures are bigger and better.

I have the CD3Fusion short antenna, but I like this one too. When you get it, let us know how well it works (and fits) and what's involved in the install. Looks as if it might be huge if it has to fit over the existing unit.

  18. I checked out the stubby antenna and I think I like, thanks for the address. Does it replace the entire unit or just the antenna mast? If it's the whole unit, what's involved and how difficult is the removal and installation? I wish the grille wrap was around when I put mine on the road last May.

Just the mast. Unscrew the whip; screw in the shortie.

  19. Thanks for all your replies. I just checked my antenna and it unscrews fairly easily. No plans at the moment to take it to a car wash.

As for washing cars up here in Canada, I wait for when the temperature goes above freezing coincides with my having time. If not it stays dirty and frozen. That's partly why I chose silver this time - hides the salt.

Have you seen the short replacement antenna available from CD3 Fusion? It looks much better than the silly looking whip, reception is exaclty the same, and you won't have to worry about the car wash if you want to go that route. Check it out: cd3fusion.com.
