  1. What is the real scoop on re-learning idle control after disconnecting battery? Have seen video of guy connecting a jumper from pos to neg cable after disconnecting the neg cable. Steps on starting car and let run after ensuring everything is off lights, etc. Have not seen anything in the Haynes manual about said re-learning.
  2. I own a 2011 Ford Fusion purchased new in late 2010. This July we had our first experience with the "wrench" light, and the engine stopped responding. I have since learned this is a very common issue. I took the car to my local mechanic, who found no codes, which I have also learned is all too common. They cleaned and tweaked it and we went almost 3 months before it happened again. Friday night last week I drove with my family from NYC to Ithaca, NY, almost 250 miles. The light came on and the engine immediately lost all power twice on the drive, fortunately without any dangerous incidents. The car resumes normal function once you stop, turn it off, wait a few moments, and restart. Saturday morning I took it into the local Ithaca Ford dealer first thing and they refused to look at it because they were too busy, which is its own frustrating story. Back home, my local Ford dealer checked it and found no codes and could not recreate the issue. I have since learned this is a common experience for this issue. I have also found this is a known issue under NHTSA Action Number: PE13003 and Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 13N03 subject to an extended warranty. I wrote to Ford and called Ford. I wrote both dealers and called both dealers. They all refuse to fix my car without codes, even though both dealers acknowledge codes often do not appear for this problem. They haven't even offered to fix it at my expense. I am at a loss what to do. My family and I consider the car unsafe and not in a drive-worthy condition. My only option left, it seems, is to go to my independent service center and ask them to replace the electronic throttle body. Is that a decent option? Is there some other option I should consider? Thank you all in advance for any help or ideas.
  3. I am still trying to confirm the pattern, but it seems that I get the Powertrain "Wrench" warning after driving on cruise control for a while in my 2012 Fusion. I also have some jerky shifting when I leave the highway and drive on surface streets for a while, but seems fine the next day. I have about 88K miles and I had the Throttle Body replaced per the recall about 3K ago, as I had the same issue with cruise control and the warning light occurring and codes for transmission over temp. Anyone else have this problem?
  4. Last week my Wife was driving the FFH, and the throttle quit responding. She pulled over, and realized all she had was electric mode, with which she managed to drive about 3 miles to home. Half a tank of gas. I immediately drove the vehicle, and it acted normal, even at full throttle. The engine light was on. I pulled 2 codes with my OBD2 sensor, it listed them 1 and 2, but they were identical P2112's. I assume that means there were 2 events. I ran a Health Report. I did not clear the codes. I drove it the next day for 40 miles with the engine light on, everything normal. After restarting the drive home, the engine light was off, and has stayed off and is still off. I can now still pull just 1 code, P2112. I have not tried to erase it, in case I want to go to the dealer. The Ford Health Report I ran right after the event responded strongly to all the warnings that are in the owners manual for the engine light on. I ran a health report again after the engine light was off, and I got a clean bill of health. I am aware that there was an extended warranty of 10 years and 150K miles on this issue (NHTSA action number PE13003) and a Ford CSP (customer satisfaction program #13N03) on this vehicle, but it ended at the end of Jan. 2015. I have an appointment with my Ford Dealer tomorrow, but I am not eager to spend a lot of money on an issue that might have fixed itself. I can buy a new throttle body at Rockauto for $76 plus shipping. They are not hard to install. Any advice or comments are welcome.
  5. Today while driving my 2010 Ford Fusion the wrench trouble light came on. The engine began to putter and cut out..it even died twice on me. The only way I could clear the trouble was to turn the car off and then restart it. It seems to make the problem go away for now. Is this problem a throttle body issue and if so how much does it cost to fix?
  6. Hi all, So I went about replacing the thermostat on a 2006 Ford Fusion I4. It took me awhile but I was able to get everything back together in one piece. I had the Battery disconnected during the repair. However, when I reconnected the battery and turned the car on the Orange Wrench light came on in the dash and the car would not respond to the throttle at all. I couldn't get the engine to rev past 1000 RPM. I attempted the ECU relearn procedure in the manual, by letting it idle, then putting A/C on and then driving it around the cul-de-sac however still nothing out of the throttle, It won't stall the engine but it won't rev past 1000 RPM. My hope is that some one on the thread could suggest some common things I might have accidently knocked off or disconnected in my attempt at getting the thermostat repaired. I haven't been able to get the new Error Codes via OBD II but if I can't get this figured out I'll be doing that on Tuesday. I would just note I'm assuming that there was either some connector or some process I didn't follow, or some extra secret step I need to do that I'm not aware of after replacing the Thermostat. I only disconnected one electrical cable during the repair, and I did double check that it was properly plugged back in. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also, please note the wrench was not on prior to the repair work. Thanks!
