Clusterliver1
2015 SE Hybrid 43K My wife reports that on a number of occasions after backing up the car stalls and will not start again. She puts the car in Park, turns the key and it won’t start. After two or three of these procedures, it starts. She’s becoming anti-Ford. Car was in the showroom for an extended period. A new 12v battery was installed when the car was delivered to me in mid-December 2015. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
eGuru
We will need more information. What do you mean by "won't start"? Does it crank? If it doesn't crank, does it click? Do the lights dim?
Clusterliver1
“Won’t start” = no motive power in either direction. Just silence when key is turned and dash lights remain on. No observation of dimming.
bangster
I have only driven briefly a rental Fusion Hybrid, and didn't pay much attention but I seem to remember that the engine didn't always start. Turn key to start, and you get the little car with forward/back arrows (and maybe gas engine starting) letting you know it was ready to drive. I didn't get enough time to play with the display to show things like the battery charge or the display that shows gas or electric split. I also remember there being some pretty heavy duty relay clicks from the battery pack turning the key to on, do you get that?
Clusterliver1
Just silence when it’s in this mode.
lolder
I didn't know the 2015s had a key. If so, make sure the key is turned far enough against the spring to activate the car instead of just putting it into the accessory mode.
Clusterliver1
Oh yeah! A few of us can’t handle fobs and push button start.?
VonoreTn
Does the green engine on light come on? Usually there is no noise when you start the car, just the green light in my car, lower right side of instrument panel.
Clusterliver1
She says no green light.
lolder
Make sure the key is turned all the way to the right against the spring tension to start. This was a problem early on and they changed the software to show a large green car icon on the left for several seconds on the 2010s. If the check engine light was on that was an indication that the car was still in accessory mode.
Clusterliver1
Yes, the green light in the lower left is hard to miss. She’s much aware of this. I relayed your suggestion to turn the key fully against the tension spring. We’ll see what happens next. Appreciate your suggestions.
VonoreTn
When it is running, are there any engine warning lights on?

Clusterliver1
No problems lately. I’m assuming operator error has been corrected.?
lolder
This is a change for HEVs, PHEVs and BEVs as there is no starter noise to confirm the car has started. You can walk away with them still "on" also. My 2010 FFH is now gone to the grandson and my new Tesla Model 3 "beeps" when I walk away as the Bluetooth disconnects and the car locks. That is selectable but with it on you don't have to look back for the parking lights to flash and confirm locking.
