2017 Fusion Platinum Leather Dash issue

My 2017 hybrid Platinum has bad lifting at every cutout - defroster, warning light etc including the air vents in the front.

I bought the car 10/2017 and it has 34k miles. This means I have owned IT a little over 3.5 years. The dealership told me to contact Ford Customer Relations. They told me to contact extended warranty - but to call back if they said it wasn’t covered. In the meantime she set up a case # & gave me her direct extension.

I called right back when extended warranty told me NO!  I left her a detailed message 3 days in a row - no response, each time. I finally spoke to someone else who informed me that she closed my case!! WTF?

So now I’m waiting for a phone call from her manager to see what they will do.

SIGH - I REALLY DONT WANT TO F WITH THESE PEOPLE.

Hello anyone!! Any luck getting this dash fixed from Ford?? My car’s dash look horrible. I’m so annoyed.

Hi Latonia. What is wrong? Can you describe or post photos?

If still within the 3 year/36,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty, and as long as there are no signs of negligence, misuse etc., the dash-pad would usually be repaired/replaced.

Either way, the only way to find out what your Dealer and/or Ford will do is make a service appointment at your Dealership and have them take a look. If they can/will not help, then contact Ford Customer Relations.

Back in September you posted your Fusion was out of warranty and the Dealer did not/could not do anything to help. So in your case, you needed to contact Ford Customer relations ASAP. The longer you wait outside of warranty, the less likely Ford will do anything. Always be polite and ask to speak to the next level up, until you either get something done or get tired of trying.

Good luck.

Hey y’all just saw online where there is a class action lawsuit for the F-150 trucks that are experiencing this same problem.
I wonder if they can somehow include the Fusion Platinum.

Hi Latonia. You would need to call the Lawyer/Lawyers/Legal office handling the class action lawsuit for an answer to that question.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I'm not a lawyer nor do I play one on TV, but I do know that a for a class action suit to go forward, a judge has to hold hearings and certify the "class."   Therefore, I'd say that a new class would have to be established separately and certified. I think that bbf2530's suggestion to contact the lawyers that actually would know is the way to go.  Unless we have a class action attorney on board here that can weigh in, I don't think that we're the people to ask.

Has anyone had luck with getting the dash replaced? Either with Ford's financial help or not? I am well past the 3 year, 36k warranty and I didn't get another warranty.

I just would like to know what it finally cost for the repair.

I'm getting the Mach-E and I will be giving my Fusion to my soon-to-be 16 y.o. son when the CA HOV sticker expires at the end of the year.

I have much less interest in replacing the dash leather if my son will be driving it and it costs well into the several thousand $$ to replace.

Thanks for the insight.

Hi charterman. Welcome to the Ford Fusion Forum!

While I can't verify that absolutely no one has, it is highly doubtful anyone was able to have their dash repaired/replaced by Ford after the 3 year/36,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty had expired. Let alone "well past 3 year, 36k warranty". But it wouldn't hurt to stop by a few of your local Ford Dealers to see if they are following to help you try.

And most of the people who have had it repaired after warranty have performed the repairs themselves. There are several existing threads with explanations, according to what the particular issue is with your car.

While it never hurts to ask online, if you want an accurate price to have it replaced, asking a Ford Dealer or perhaps a few body shops near you would get you a better answer.

I am sure others will also jump in to help.

Hi everyone,  I have a 2017 Ford fusion energi platnium.  I've had it since July 2016, In 2019  I had the same issue with the leather pulling away from the emergency break light and the defrost vent.  Ford did  replace the dash,  5k and was covered under warranty.  HOWEVER,  here we are a few years later and the dash is again doing the same thing on the replacement (about an inch gap showing the foam/ white cloth under the leather by emergency vent,  the white material its actually reflecting off the window now when you look out of it, very distracting).  So even getting it replaced just started the process over.  My car has 100k miles on it now and is 5 years old so im not paying 5k out of pocket to have the dash replaced just to have it happen again.

I was looking at just getting a dash repair kit,  (  piece of brown leather,  cut a small length to just cover the gap, has an adhesive back) and see where that goes.  Its not going to look great by any means but it has to be better then exposed foam and white material on top of a leather premium dash.

Hi cranbers. Just as an FYI for all; The vast majority of the dashboard areas being discussed, including the area/parts you are discussing, are vinyl, not leather.

The leather area is essentially only the cowl area over the center instrument panel (Driver Information Center/speedometer/tachometer, etc.). Not the rest of the dashboard.

I realize this does  not help you with your issue, but felt it a good idea to correct this ongoing misconception about what the rest of the dash is covered with.

Good luck.

 New to the forum.

But me too. In ‘20 I  bought 2017 energi platinum with only 5k miles on it. Really love the car. But after two summers in florida- the dash is peeling so badly it is ripping out the vents. I’m so disappointed. I had no idea the build quality would be so poor.

That’s the worst one I’ve seen. I have a 2018 Platinum without any issues.  Glad I invested in a dash cover to protect it in the blistering Arizona summers.  Just moved to Colorado but will keep the dash cover in place.

Hi,  We currently have our 2018 Fusion in for dash repair.  It came apart just like the pictures everyone is posting.  Ford Corp. initially stated they would pay $2400.00 and we had to pay $1700.00 due to the manufacture warranty being expired.  We quickly found out the dash is not covered under the extended warranty ford sell.  The dash is considered trim.  We found this completely unacceptable for an item with known issues.  After Ford Corp came back with this offer our local Food Dealership stepped up and covered the cost of repairs which Ford Corp would not cover, $1700.00.  I can't say enough about how great our local dealer was during this mess.

@RWRhow did you get corporate to help you with your repairs? Who specifically did you speak to?

I bought my ’17 Platinum exactly a year ago with its dash still in good shape.  It won’t be garaged and will need to endure sweltering summers. Forewarned by this thread and similar postings, I've reconditioned the leather every few months and kept a custom dash cover over it except for special occasions. So far, so good.  I’d really prefer not to keep it hidden most of the time, but the pictures of deterioration some others have shared are just way too scary.

All,

I recently bought a Fusion Energi, seeing it had the dash issue I was reluctant to make the purchase.

This thread was one reason I went ahead with the purchase.  Seems to be a cosmetic issue aside from the potential defrost issue.

I have made an appointment with my local Ford dealer to see what my options are with replacing or fixing the dash.  Does anyone have any advise?  My appointment is on Jan 9th, 2023.

Also, I'm not afraid to do the replacement myself so if anyone has any links to the dash removal process it would be much appreciated.

On another note, is 16 miles on a full charge normal?  It is cold but i thought it would be a bit higher.

2017 with 57k miles

Thanks in advance

I too have the exact same issue with my 2018 Platinum. I bought the car new and now has 54,000 miles. I noticed the changes in appearance @ 50,000. I have called FOMCO along with my local dealership in February 2023 and there still is no recall or reimbursement for this issue. For me a dash cover was never considered as the whole point of the Platinum model  was to appreciate the upgraded trim. I just bought a dash cover to hide the eye sore that I paid  thousands of dollars more in purchase. If anyone has made progress with this issue please post and I will keep updating any progress in status!

Hi Members,

I am having a same challenge, where Texas summer has created my Dashboard pretty Messy, Any one Who has tried to fix the dash board for Ford Fusion 2017 Platinum Hybrid through any Body shop. what can be the estimate on the repairing?

Kindly share the Dash leather Mats experience if any one is using. I am currently not in a mood of spending lots on the dash board.

Any suggestions will be appretiated.

I recently purchased a 2017 Fusion Platinum, here within the last month (July) I had noticed my passenger side near the windshield was peeling up. Upon further investigation I had found spots around my air vents and the de-froster vent to also be pulling up. I am guessing the leather that FoMoCo had used for these Platinum packages was not the best and does not withstand ANY type of heat. I live in Kentucky, so not saying its the desert but didn't think it would effect my dash. I had bought this car used, I did not extend the warranty.. rookie mistake I guess ... Is there ANYONE who has tried taking this problem to a shop? Or tried heating it back up and re-gluing it? I don'd want to spend $5-8,000 just to replace a dash.

I got know where with Ford on this issue. My defroster isn’t working properly and this issue is probably the reason. They told me I would have to fix the dash first before they can fix the defroster. Go figure!! I just decided to order a custom fitted dash mat and cut away the leather parts that have shrunk. I’m over it.
