bigb252
Hey there. The A/C in my Fusion no longer gets cold - It only blows warm air. I recharged it about 6 months ago, and one day it just stopped pushing cool air, so I doubt it needs recharging. It ONLY gets cold at 4:00 AM when I'm driving at 40-50MPH. I don't even think about putting it on during the day, the outside air is cooler. Since the car is out of warranty, will the dealership (we only have 1 authorized Ford place) charge me just to look at whats wrong? I'm broke and if they charge to run diagnostics, I'll have to wait a couple weeks or even months until I get enough change to have them look at it. It still turns on, and if I move the dial in the red, it gets HOT, but never cold. Any remedies? 2006 SE V6, 34k miles, out of warranty

Any remedies? 2006 SE V6, 34k miles, out of warranty Hi bigb52. :D A few questions, to try and help: What was the reason you recharged the system 6 months ago? Is it correct to assume that the reason you recharged the system 6 months ago is because it was not getting cold at that time? Did you do it yourself, or have it professionally recharged? Was the system checked for other problems, or only recharged with no diagnosis? Did the recharge correct the problem for a short time? A properly operating system does not need recharging, so if you needed to recharge the system 6 months ago, at the very least it has a refrigerant leak that needs to be found. And of course there could be other problems, but there are special tools needed to find that out. As an FYI, recharging it again would just be throwing money away, as it will leak right out again. Essentially, there are numerous possible causes for your problem and it needs to be looked at by a professional. What a Dealer will/will not charge for Diagnostics varies greatly from Dealer to Dealer. Some will diagnose for free, many others charge a minimum 1 hour labor (or more). So in the end, the best way to find out what a Dealers Service Department will/will not charge for diagnostics is to call and ask them. Good luck. :beerchug:

I have been taking my Moms 97 Deville out and about this summer because she is getting up there in years and drives so few days that the battery discharges because it may be months between drives. Anyway her car has never had a recharge of the air conditioner and after about 20 or 30 miles it started blowing cold air. So unless something is wrong with a part of the air conditioner or there is a leak there shouldn't be a problem. They don't lose freon for no reason.

If you've got a Cadillac that takes 20-30 miles before it blows cold air, then it isn't working correctly either.

That was just the first time and the air hadn't been on in years. From that point on it ran as it should.
bigb252
Great advice guys, I had it recharged when I picked it up because it would blow cool, not cold...My mistake... I guess I'm outta luck this time around, but I'll stop in to the service dept. on Tuesday or so, the same time I plan to test drive a 2010.
wydopnthrtl
Great advice guys, I had it recharged when I picked it up because it would blow cool, not cold...My mistake... I bought our 06 Milan used in Feb. Couldn't test the AC at the time. When summer came I found it to be pretty bad. It was decent in 70F temps.. but once it got hotter than the low 80s AC performance was horrible. I tried adding R134a but that only increased the pressure and the AC would kick on/off more. I had a local shop evacuate the system and refill. Cost was $84 and the AC now performs very well. Rich

Any remedies? 2006 SE V6, 34k miles, out of warranty Hey I am new here but I have a 2006 Ford Fusion and today it started blowing only HOT air. I don't live in the US, but on the island of St. Maarten. I love my fusion but there are problems just popping up! The engine mount needed to be replaced, and the electric seat track, the dealer also told me some part for steering needs to be replaced (sorry I don't know the name). I am thinking whether or not I should get the new fusion but I hope it is more reliable. I also think my car is the first batch off the assembly line but I didn't know that when purchasing the car in february 2006. I love ford but this car is shared with my parents and I am not sure if they will go for a new one. The biggest problem here is that all the parts have to be ordered and the dealer its 80% more expensive for parts forcing me to order it directly from dealers in the US. Has anyone have a series of problems or is it just first batch issues? Thanks

I got my fusion from the dealer and that is what they discovered! I need to order the part! Maybe you have the same problem?
