akirby
Does anyone know of a way to disable the DRLs - 2008 Fusion Assuming you're in Canada - it can't be done legally nor would any dealer risk doing it. Only the dealer can access the module to turn it on and off.
Redbirded
No, I'm in US, STL, MO. So the dealer has to do it?
Grey
No, I'm in US, STL, MO. So the dealer has to do it? Yes, unless you can find a shop that has the correct diagnostic equipment to access the lighting "brain".
DaveM
I guess my question is why and what's to be gained except less safety?
Redbirded
I guess my question is why and what's to be gained except less safety? I find them annoying and unnecessary. I know when to turn my lights on. Plus I like the look of running just the fog lights at times too.
akirby
No, I'm in US, STL, MO. So the dealer has to do it? The previous owner or dealership must have turned them on - they are not enabled by default. The dealer has to do it with their diagnostic computer - not a DIY job.
Grey
DRL's are usually an option for fleets in the States. (If this was purchased used, it may have been ordered as a fleet unit with the option.)
Waldo
I find them annoying and unnecessary. I know when to turn my lights on. Do you really? How do you know what you're car looks like while you're in it? How do you know how much glare is coming from behind you, all you see is the cars coming towards you? How do you know the condition of the eyes of everyone else on the road or the amount of attention they are giving? Have you ever driven a Miata with a plastic rear window? On most of my morning commutes the ONLY thing I can see out of it are headlights, even though there's plenty of ambient light outside and many people "think" they don't need their lights on. Besides if you find them annoying, it doesn't matter, because you never drive towards yourself!
twiggy144
Waldo, I could not have said better myself. By the way, my summer toy is a Miata.
PajamaGuy
RedBirded- I'm sure Waldo was speaking tongue-in-cheek - but take it from a Senior Citizen - we like those DRL's - as we get older more senior, our eyes see less and less as the sun goes down. Your DRL's make it much easier for us to see you! ...and before the young whippersnappers chime in - I too used to comment that the "old folks" shouldn't be allowed to drive - now I'm almost one of them and my opinions are changing. I'd like to see all vehicles with DRL - but that's just my opinion RedBirded, and although you are certainly entitled to have a differing one, I wish you'd try to see it from us older folk's point of view! xmech2k
Yeah, we shouldn't be too hard on the guy. Everyone's different, or we'd all be driving the same kind of car... So even though some people see the safety factor involved, some don't agree or just don't want it anyways. Not a great comparison, but some people think smoking crack is a great idea. (Like I said not a good comparison. I do not mean disabling DRL is like smoking crack, OK?) So not everyone will be the same. Me, I agree with the PajamaGuy, I don't know why it's not required like TPMS is now. The light bulb lobbyists should get right on that!
