Breener
According to my window sticker, my ford fusion was built, or starting to be built on 03 09 10 (march 9th 2010) I'm just wondering how long it would take, based on that information, to get the car up to ontario canada.

Hi Breener. :D Figure an "average" delivery time of two weeks. But that can vary according to routing (yours is longer than most), weather/transit delays and other unforeseen circumstances. To give you a general idea, my MKZ was built on 11/7/06 and delivered to the Dealership (in New Jersey) on 11/20/2006. So 13 days. But yours has a longer trip, so it will vary according to the variables listed above. Hope your wait ends soon. Good luck. :beerchug: Edited March 25, 2010 by bbf2530

Just 'cause I like to argue with you bbf, Nogales Arizona (where all Fusion/MKZs travel through) to Toronto, Ontario is 2343 miles according to Google maps. Nogales to Newark, NJ is 2548 miles. Of course chances are the extra border crossing will add more time then the extra distance, but just want to point out that the "great white north" isn't really that far away.
Breener
I guess I should have added that my dealer said it would be here the earliest of april 20th. That seems like a long time, about a month and a half from build time!

Hi Breener. :D What that information tells us is this: If that Dealer supplied information is accurate, then the build date is/was certainly not March 9th. You should check with your Dealer for the latest information. They should be able to tell you if the vehicle was built or what the actual build date is, and give an approximate delivery date. Let us know the outcome. Good luck. :beerchug: Edited March 25, 2010 by bbf2530

My best guess is that the dealership is just randomly guessing a delivery date. lol Edited March 25, 2010 by Breener

My best guess is that the dealership is just randomly guessing a delivery date. lol Hi Breener. :D That is not a production date. It is codes and dates that have to do with transport. And not a specific transport date, just a date transport issues were ordered/arranged/processed etc.. Again, for example, the date on my Window Sticker is one week before my cars actual build date. 10/31 versus a build date of 11/6. Anyway, bottom line is that the date you are looking at deals with transportation issues, not a production date. Good luck. :beerchug:

Who'da figured that Toronto was closer than Newark! Must be Global Warming! In all seriousness, without a map in front of me I would never have figured that Toronto, Ontario would be closer to Nogales AZ than Newark NJ. However (just for the fun of it, my good buddy), with a map in front of me I get different figures: Nogales to Toronto by road 2,323.99 miles (Mapquest), and 1,906.68 miles as the crow flies (Google Earth). Nogales to Newark by land 2,463.46 miles (Mapquest), and 2,134.02 miles as the crow flies (Google Earth). Therefore, I have just conclusively proven that when it comes to travel mileage...ummm...uhhh...I guess it is good to be a crow? :hyper: Good luck. :beerchug: Edited March 25, 2010 by bbf2530
Fuze-ion
My vehicle took three weeks, to get from Assembly Plant to Virginia. The trains travel many tracks and even change from Union Pacific to CSX, on the way to Virginia. the time will go quickly!
ford fan
We ordered our car on February 8th and took delivery on March 18th. A little over 5 weeks. I believe the car was produced in early March. The sticker inside the door said it was produced in March. I live in northern Ohio
Grey
Once built, the vehicles go to a gathering yard and sit until the transportation system assigns it to a train or hauler. Then it will go another gathering yard (at the end of the train journey) and wait until the transportation system assigns it to a carrier for local delivery. These decisions regarding routing, loading, etc. are made to minimize transportation cost while providing reasonable delivery service. Two vehicles off the line the same day, going the same distance for delivery might have a two week varience in delivery timing. If there was any damage to the vehicle in transit, it will generally be repaired at a facility near the gathering yard ---that can add a few days. (Rare, but it happens.) Dealers are prone to under promise and (therefore) over deliver BTW, your mileage may very also.
Rodeo
Checked on my order today and it says that my new Milan 'shipped via railroad on 04/15." Does anyone know how long it takes when it ships via rail like this? The estimated delivery date that is shown is the week of 05/17 (I'm in New Jersey) Sound right?

Hi Rodeo. :D What I can tell you is this: My MKZ was manufactured on 11/7/06. I was lucky and it shipped the very same day. It arrived at my Dealership. located in the Northern end of Central NJ, on 11/20/06. So 13 days from door to door. I drove off the lot with it the next day, 11/21/06. Of course, shipping times will vary according to many variables, some predictable, some unpredictable. Hopefully your wait will be shorter than the month + estimate you currently have. Good luck. :beerchug:
Rodeo
It's "on the way" and that's all that really counts!! I've got the VIN, paperwork and insureance card in my hands already. (Weathertech floor liners too!)
deo1929
When I got the Marti report for my 1968 Mustang, it showed a number of different dates for the car. 1. Order date from the DSO (district sales office) 2. "Buck" date--when the car order was serialized with the VIN 3. build date - scheduled 4. build date - actual The time from the order date to the actual build date was 19 days. But that was for my 1968 Mustang. Hopefully, the system is more streamlined today. I have no idea how dealers receive the bulk of their cars...if they actually order them as they once did back in the 60's and 70's...or if there's an automatic order generator based on local demand for cars and options. The actual build time for the car is amazingly short--usually within 24 hours once the order hits the factory floor. As far as shipping goes, I do know the company I worked for shipped florescent glass tubing via truck and rail to Monterrey, Mexico. By the time the loads cleared customs at Laredo, it was about a 7-10 day process from leaving our plant to arrival at the lamp plant in Mexico. So, a 4-6 week total time from order to delivery sounds fairly reasonable.
