Last place for the Fusion (sad)

It was sad to read (Cars.com) that the 2010 Fusion took last place out of eight Family Sedans. I hope this does not hurt our resale value in the future. I own a 2010 SEL and love my car.

A "link" to the article would be nice.....

Ditto. 2010 Motor Trend Car of the Year! And what does cars.com know? They highly recommended the Fusion a year ago.

Considering the worst thing they could come up with for the Fusion was 'cheap leather', and the winner was 2nd place to Fusion in MPG, space, and I think worst in handling(?) of all, I have to wonder how they came up with the results here. Other than The Sonata had the most bells & wistles for the lowest price. But you have to remember, sometimes you get what you pay for... Go to the Edmunds forums for the different cars in the shoot-out and see what problems they're talking about for those cars. I was looking at a Sonata, but went with a Fusion, and I'm sure glad I did. That was the 2009. I know it's just personal preference, but I'm no fan of the new looks of the 2011 Sonata.

I realize the site might be hard to find, but they just had it on tv (Motorweek). It's not fair that they had some ordinary people making a judgement on the cars and then putting their opinions on tv. The average person is going to take stock on what these people had to say because it was "On AIr." Pay me a few bucks and I'll say whatever you want me to say.

I always faulted car magazine reviews of family sedans. They judge these cars by their performance on the Slalom track or by how many g-s they pull on the skid pad. Automobile magazine's review gave the Fusion a low score based on its "handling" while in the same article they mentioned that the Fusion would be their car of choice if they were stuck in traffic because of its comfort. Well, I commute about an hour every day for the past ten years. Never once did I find myself in a situation where I am going around a skid pad pulling 0.9 lateral g. So a comfy ride is more pertinent to my appreciation of a car than its slalom or skid pad performance.

On the other extreme, this review places clueless people in the driver seat and publicizes their opinions. Just to show how (un-)objective this review was: In the pros section for the Malibu they praise the spacious rear seat! Humm... Check the figures, the Malibu is one of the NARROWEST cars in this segment. They also give other cars more points for cargo space. The fusion has the most usable trunk of the whole lot (easy access and the least protrusions into the cavernous, square space inside. Has anybody tried to put two pieces of luggage into the Malibu's or the Sonata's trunks?

I do not put stock in reviews like this. I am happy with the car I bought (and do hope that Ford will fix the "sloshing" issue discussed in another thread on this forum), and no article will take away from that.
