Drifting

So has anybody drifted in their fusion? I mean the complete style with the E break. I really want to but I just got a new 2010 and I really don't want to completely screw it up. I know it's not great for the E break, but does it mess anything else up?

First, it's brake, not break. Second, it won't hurt anything except faster wear on the tires and brakes. Third, you should find a nice RWD vehicle if you really want to go drifting.

It won't do any damage or wear to the brake at all (when the wheel is locked, there is no brake wear!), but it will ruin your tires very quickly. Save it for the winter.

You have to be very skilled to "drift" a FWD drive car. You need to carry a LOT of speed into the corner and turn it very early. If the drift doesn't work, you drive over the curb/obstacle on the inside of the corner. If you turn in too late, you slide out into the curb/obstacle on the outside of the corner. In a RWD car you can start a drift slowly and get faster, in a FWD car you must start a drift fast and slow down. That makes learning in a FWD car much more dangerous.

Ah, yeah sorry. Brake. I understand that I would need to practice in a parking lot or something first. I'm not going to start drifting around corners on public roads. And I realize it will wear down tires very quickly, which is why I won't be drifting often, my biggest concern was jacking up my brake. Thanks for the responses.

OK, since I've been on a roll lately, I may as well finally say what I've been thinking about this last post:

I'm glad Kaleb will be practicing his drifting in a parking lot before he unleashes his extraordinary driving skills on the general public. I mean, with things like this happening with people just driving in a straight line, I'm glad he will practice first...

That is an absolutely horrible story. As a father of a 2 year old boy, it hurt to read that.

I'd probably seriously injure someone that hit my child due to idiotic driving on a public road.

Of course it's a tragedy, but I don't see where the "idiotic" driving part comes in.

The article states:

According to witnesses, the trash truck was traveling through the neighborhood at low speed when Jovani crossed directly in front of it.
.

Kids have been known to dart out into traffic with tragic results. How about asking why a 2-year old was on the other side of the street with no one apparently watching him closely enough to keep him from running into the street.

I don't think sullied was actually referring to the driver of the garbage truck. I think sullied was saying that if someone was driving like an idiot, and hit his child. I would have to agree with that too.

If you want to try this drifting, do it in a non-public area where no one other than yourself could possible get hurt. If you get hurt, then stupid is as stupid does. Just don't hurt anyone else in the process.

I was referring to this guy that wants to drift in his Fusion...not the garbage truck. It's people like this that cause insurance rates to be higher than they should be.

OK, fair enough. I'm sure we all share that sentiment. Since the father and family of the boy did attack the driver as well as the P.O. on the scene with no apparent evidence that the driver did anything wrong, I inferred that you would do the same under similar circumstances. Thanks for the clarification.

well whoever started the original post, drifting obviously kills your treads on your tires, puts massive strain on your cv joints. I'd be worried about those. Those are the joints that allow the front wheels to accelerate while turning, so one wheel can spin at a different speed. But over time, too much of that breaks the seal or the boot on the joint and the joint looses its grease. When that happens usually it starts to squeal and ruins the wheel hub. If you do it once fine. but even once in a while, your e brake cable will start to wear down, (minor) but 7 years from now, you may see yourself buying new cv joints, and that's a $1,000 for both with labor. I wouldn't make it a habit. Btw, it's also difficult to drift the michelins you get with the car, or the goodyears, both tires have pretty damn good grip, you'd have to be doing like 50mph into the turn.

So?

Love how he 'modded' the car by removing the hubcaps. It hauls butt now!!!!

Next one This one's great. Wonder if mom & dad will pay to fix that?

If you can't afford to wreck it....

I have to say, love the second video lol, when I drifted my old maxima I went in a huge empty parking lot with nobody and no objects or curbs around. But yea, you wanna drift, don't be stupid, and usually people that wanna drift are, so i wouldn't do much of that.
