Trailer Towing with Fusion/MKZ vs Edge/MKX

OK Father Ford, I know there must be a good answer for this, so how about it.

You don't want us to tow a trailer (even a small 1000 lb tralier) with the Fusion/MKZ but you allow trailer towing, up to 3500 lbs with the Edge/MKX. They all have the same transmission and only the Fusion has a slightly smaller engine, although plenty of power with it. I have towed motorcycles in the past, with everything from 130 hp Toyotas, 150 hp Buicks, 200 hp Chryslers, etc. Why can't I tow with a Fusion/MKZ?? :shades: :censored: :anger:

For one the Edge/MKX weigh more. And they don't have the same transmission. Fusion/Milan/MKZ still use the Aisin 6 speed automatic while the Edge and MKX use the new 6F Ford/GM joint venture tranny.

But I bet the biggest reason is that the Edge/MKX were designed to accomodate a hitch whereas the cars were not.

U-Haul has a hitch for the Zephyr, should be the same for the MKZ/Fusion.

Will check my local Ford Dealer about the transmission on the MKX/Edge being a different six speed. Does not sound right. If it is different, will check with their transmission man asking what fluid does the MKX/Edge use.

Trust me on this one. I got it straight from the engineers and it was confirmed by the Ford media info. The plan was to use the 6F with the 3.5L engine on the Edge/MKX and MKZ, but the MkZ team ran out of resources and didn't have time to implement it, so they stuck with the same Aisin 6 speed as the Fusion and Milan.

I also just looked up the specs in the owners manuals and the Edge and Fusion 6 speed use different fluid.
