Great Traction - No WheelSpin

We don't have snow here in Central Florida, so it is difficult to test the extra traction of the AWD. Today when I went to Orlando, it started to rain. I stopped at a light and made sure my right side wheels were on the "oily" center section of the lane. When the light turned green, I tromped on the gas. Took off like a shot, NO WheelSpin and No Traction Control Message came on. This shows me that you guys in the Snow Belt States will not have much trouble driving in that white stuff.

Hello ctrcbob,

I share in your enthusiasm about the AWD. We just got our first taste of winter here in PA and I took the Fusion out to test its abilities in the white stuff. I traded an 03 Explorer limited and I must say the Fusion actually feels more 'sure-footed' in the white stuff than the previous Explorer..very impressed! As far as when this feeling will fall off I would assume 4-5" of snow would probably be the maximum depth that the Fusion could possibly handle. Turbo

One of the reasons I opted for the AWD is that I make many trips to Western New York, (Snow Country) and if I have to go for a family emergency, I'll feel better with the AWD. (Last time I went, I used the FWD Continental which worked out fine, but did not have DEEP snow).

I also make trips out to SE New Mexico, and although they very seldom have snow there, this past week, they were hammered, and continue to be hammered. Again, if I have to go for an emergency trip, that driving through West Texas, North Texas, and SE New Mexico, (which were all covered with deep snow this past week) will be easier with the AWD.

It's a small world. I live in the SE NM region (Clovis/Portales). My MKZ AWD should be here any day now. I am hoping it can handle a few inches. I am from Michigan and plan on going back, but can't right now due to the military.

And yes, we got a TON of snow this past weekend. A good foot or so.

Iluvford1,

I visit Roswell at least once a year, sometimes more. I've been there in mid summer and once in mid winter. I stay with an old shipmate who has a UFO Shop on East Second Street, one block east of Main Street. My buddy is very overweight and I know if anything happens to him with his health, I will drive out there in a heartbeat.

BTW, the Ford/Lincoln-Mercury Dealer in Roswell does good work, but you may have to "dicker" with them to get their service prices down. Example. When I was there in September, they quoted me an oil change price of $32. I pointed out the them that I could get the same oil change just down the road at Wal-Mart for about $20. or less. They came down to that price for the oil change.

Interesting note, while I think of it. It was in Roswell Ford/Lincoln-Mercury where I saw that 06 Lincoln LS's were being discounted by $8000. When I returned to Florida, my wife and I went and drove a leftover LS, but my wife did not like it. I then asked to drive an 06 Zephyr. My wife loved it, but I waited for the MKZ to come out with the larger engine.

  • 2 months later...

Greetings all from sunny New England (joshing, it's still cold and snowing in April!). My three month experience with my new '07 SEL AWD V6 has been astounding. Just quickly, the last storm we had a few weeks ago left us with around 4 inches of heavy wet freezing slush. As a test, I said to myself "Self, just floor it out of the driveway (not shoveled) to see what happens". Well to my surprise, after flooring it, the revs clamped down and drove all wheels at a pleasantly steady pace and inched my way out of the driveway and gently onto the road. No matter what I did these past three months, I could not for the life of me loose traction. Bottom line, this car is outstanding.

That's a very positive report, Phynigan. Welcome to the forum. Enjoy your stay and tell us more about your Fusion. We have an '07 SEL AWD Fusion ourselves but did not have much of an opportunity to test it out this winter. It rarely snows in Salisbury, MD, hub city of the Delmarva Peninsula (state of Delaware, Eastern Shore of Maryland, Eastern Shore of Virginia). One thing we have noticed is that the gasoline mileage is pretty bad, 14.8 mpg in all city driving, but it recently improved to 16.1 on the last tank full. What kind of mileage are you getting?
