Possible Transmission problem, 2012 Fusion SEL AWD

Once in awhile, usually shortly after I start the car I sometimes get a hard knock while driving. Sometimes it is such a jolt that is feels like someone rear ended me. This has to be a transmission problem right??

I live in a place where it is extremely cold out this time of year and the car only does this when it is cold, like after it sat outside while I worked a 12 hour shift and I am driving home.

Any ideas what this might be??

I have already been into service multiple times for other issues with this car, if I go back in I want to know what to tell them. Is there a term for this?

Do you feel the hard "knock" when it's shifting from one gear to the next? Typically, it won't shift as smooth as it should until warmed up. I think the owners manual mentions this. But if it seems extreme, you might take it to the dealer and let them keep it overnight so when they try it in the morning they can most likely duplicate the concern. See what they say.

I know it's a PITA to leave it over night.
